The office
Season 2 Episode 15
"BOYS AND GIRLS"
Jan : So, I'm happy to be here. It's very nice to see all of you. You're all looking well.
---------------------------------------
P므 : Today's a Women in the Workplace thing. Jan's coming in from corporate, to talk to all the women about... I don't really know what. (솔직히 무엇에 대해서 토론하려는진 모르지만) But, Michael's not allowed in. (Michael은 낄 수 없는 이야기에요) She said that about five times.
---------------------------------------
Jan : Women today, though we have the same options as men, we often face a very different set of obstacles...In getting there, so..
Micheal : Hey, what's going on?
Jan : Michael, I...
Micheal : Yeah, you know what? I just... I just have a few things I wanna say.
Jan : What are you doing?
Micheal : Just hear me out. (그냥 들어주세요) What is more important than quality? Equality. Now, studies show that today's woman, the Ally McBeal woman, as I call her, is at a crossroads.
Jan : Michael...
Micheal : And, no, just... (자, 잠깐) You have come a long way, baby. (길고 긴 거리를 왔어 당신들) But, I just wanna keep it within reason. (난 그저 적당한 장소에 있고 싶어요) They did this up in Albany.
Jan : You are not allowed, in this session.
Micheal : And they.. Into a lactation room, which is disgusting.
Jan : Now you're really not allowed in this session.
Micheal : I'm their boss, so I feel like...
Jan : I'm your boss.
Micheal : Anybody want any coffee?
Jan : We're fine, Michael. We just need you to leave please.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Women in the Workplace. (직장에 있는 여성) Yeah, translation, (번역하자면) I have been banned from my own conference room. So that Jan can talk in secret to all the girls. Oh, sorry, "Women of the Workplace." (아 죄송, 직장에 있는 여성) About what? I don't know. Clothes, me...
---------------------------------------
Jan : Ladies, I am so, so sorry. Can we... start again? - We were on such a roll. (우리 정말 잘 하고 있었어요) I really, apologize for that.
Pam : Jan
Jan : Yes, Pam.
Pam : Michael's still at the door.
Jan : Michael!
---------------------------------------
Jan : So, one obstacle is how assertiveness is perceived differently in men and women. (첫번째 장애물은 남서과 여성의 주장력이 다르게 받아진다고 봐요) Men, who are assertive tend to be admired. They're called...anyone?
Dwight : That's a terrible idea.
Jan : What is?
Dwight : Them, in there all together. (저들 다 함께 안에 있는 점) They stay in there too long, they're gonna get on the same cycle. (오랫동안 있으면 다들 똑같은 생각을 하게 되지) Wreak havoc on our plumbing.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Everyone, guys. Circle up, (모여) please. Come on over. Bring your chairs. Tobby, come on over. You're a guy... too. Sort of. (너도 skaw야. Let's do this. Well, first of all, I, just wanna warm up a little bit. Let's just clap. Let's just clap, ready? That's what I'm talking about!
Jan : I don't know what you're doing here, Michael.
Micheal : Just having a little "Guys in the Workplace" kind of thing. Why can't boys play with dolls? Why does society, force us to use urinals when sitting down is far more comfortable?
Jan : Can you please do this somewhere else, Michael?
Micheal : We have no where else, Jan. This...
Dwight : We could do it in the warehouse.
Jan : Dwight. Excellent idea. Go to the warehouse.
Micheal : Fine. Actually... Perfect. Perfect! You know what? There is another side to this place, gentlemen. And I know we all love our cushy jobs and our fun, exciting office. But do you realize that underneath us, there is another world. The warehouse world. A world that is teeming with sweat, and dirt and life. Life. The bowels of the office.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : These guys are down there. They are real men doing real man's work. We are going to learn how a warehouse works. I think this is gonna work out great. (제 생각엔 지금 일이 너무 잘 풀린다고 생각해요) Because managing the warehouse is a very important part of my job. And I haven't been there in months.
---------------------------------------
Dwight : Remember on "Lost", when they met the Others?
---------------------------------------
Jan : I'm so sorry about that. So where are we? Pam, are you okay taking notes then? Please? Thank you very much.
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
Micheal : So let's meet the warehouse! Let's get some shots. (좀 찍어봐요) Pan around there. This is Darryl, one of our warehouse staff. Darryl, what is your biggest fear?
Darryl : My biggest fear is that someone will distract us from getting all the shipments out on time.
Micheal : Darryl is actually the foreman here, (Darryl이 실제로 현장 주임이죠) and not Roy. Which is cool. There's Roy, ridin' the big rig! (커다란걸 타고) so Roy is actually going to be marrying Pam sometime this summer. And, uh, she's our receptionist. Sort of a BrAngelina thing.
Roy : Why?
Micheal : BrAngelina is the Brad Pitt and Angelina.
Roy : I don't understand.
Micheal : Roy, Roy and Pam. It's a Ram. It's a Ram thing.
Kevin : I bet Roy heard about you liking Pam. (네가 Pam을 좋아한다는 걸 분명 Roy가 알거야) I bet he'll try to beat you up.
Jim : Thanks for the heads-up, Kev.
Kevin : I got your back if he does. (그가 진짜 그러면 내가 널 보호해줄게) But try to stay out of it.
Micheal : Just in case there's somebody down here who shouldn't be. (만약 여기에 있어야 할 사람이 아닌데 있을지도 모르니) A little "Good Will Hunting" situation. (Good Will Hunting처럼 말이죠) All right, troops. (여러분) This is an important day. A big day. Now, you may look around and see two groups here. White-collar, blue-collar. But I don't see it that way. And you know why not? Because I am collar-blind.
---------------------------------------
Jan : Why don't we go around the table and all say something that we know we're good at. I will start. I am good at public speaking.
Meregith : Hi, I'm Meredith, and I'm an al Good at supplier relations.
Jan : Great. Phyllis.
Phylis : I'm good at computer stuff. E-mails, spreadsheets, all that.
Angela : Really?
Phylis : I don't know. I thought that...
Jan : No, okay, stop.
Angela : You know, I've seen some of your spreadsheets. And I almost always...
---------------------------------------
Pam : I don't know how I fit in with these women.
Here. Or with Jan. (여기 직원들이나 Jan이나) I mean, we get along great. Fine. I guess the person I have the most in common with is.
---------------------------------------
Roy : Jim. Halpert. Heard there's a rumor going around about, you know you used to have a crush on Pam and...
Jim : Oh, no, no, no.
Roy : No, no. It's cool. 'Cause I know you're a good guy, and I know that that crush ended a long time ago, so, you know. We're cool, right?
Jim : Yeah. No, yeah, definitely.
Roy : You know, it's great with me, 'cause that way... I'm glad she has a friend at work she can get through the day with. That way she's not all, "Bah, bah," you know, when she gets home.
Jim : I like talking to her too.
Roy : So, we're cool, right?
Jim : Yes, yeah.
Roy : Good. All right.
Jim : Cool, man.
Roy : Sweet.
---------------------------------------
Darryl : Hey, Mike, look. How about we go upstairs, too? Learn how an office works.
Micheal : Oh, well...
Darryl : We can both switch places for the day.
Micheal : Yeah, you know what? I don't, you're... My job sucks compared to this. (내 직업은 여기에 비하면 진짜 재미없어) I don't think you'd like it up there.
Darryl : Experience.
Micheal : Guys! You wanna start unloading the truck?
---------------------------------------
Dwight : Okay, let's go. Step up.
Micheal : Check this out. (이거봐) Look at that. Look at that. "Hello, how are"... O-kay. That's great. That is good stuff.
---------------------------------------
Meredith : In five years, I'd like to be, five years sober. (5
Jan : That is an excellent goal.
Meredith : Four and a half.
Kelly : I'll tell you one thing. I am not going to be one of those women schlepping her kids around in a minivan.
Jan : Great.
Kelly : I want an SUV with three rows of seats.
---------------------------------------
Jan : Well, I'll be honest. One of the goals of these women seminars is to feel out if there's any standouts. Women who could be valuable addition to our corporate life.
---------------------------------------
Dwight : Michael wants us to bond. So we need topics for conversation.
Jim : Ponies.
Dwight : No.
Ryan : How about rainbows?
Dwight : No.
Ryan : Flowers.
Dwight : No.
---------------------------------------
Darryl : Make-up. (내려) Hey. You're gonna hurt yourself.
Micheal : Stand clear.
Darryl : Mike, get off of the lift, please.
Micheal : I'm fine, I'm fine. I m' fine
Darryl : Come on, now. Would you...look. Michael.
Micheal : We'll get somebody to clean that up.
Darryl : We're da ones that gotta clean that up!
? : Damn it, Michael!
Micheal : We have to have this thing serviced.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : So, guys gripe session. (불평 토론회에요) Here we are. (시작하죠) Now, we definitely live in different worlds, but we have a lot in common. We even like the same girls, some of us. And that's gonna happen. You know, we're guys. So...
? : Hey... do you want me to go?
Micheal : No... why would I... you could.
? : I'll go.
Micheal : Stay, or..
---------------------------------------
Phylis : And a big, walk-in closet.
Meredith : That's part of my dream too.
Kelly : Oh, me too.
Jan : Great. Great. And, Pam, what about you? What is your dream?
Pam : Well, I always dreamed of a house with a terrace upstairs. Plant flowers on it, stuff like that. Since I was a girl. More seriously, (더 중요한건) though, a husband that I love. Roy. And... I love to draw. And I, I did a little in college. (대학에서도 약간 했었구요) And I'd still love to do something, where I could work with art or graphic design in some way.
Phylis : She's real good.
Pam : Thanks
Jan : You know, the company is offering a design training program in New York.
Pam : I have a job right now. So I can't really take time off.
Jan : It's, it's only on weekends. And then a few weeks in New York. But I'm sure that I could ask corporate to help you out.
Pam : It's just that the weekends aren't good because..
Jan : There's always a million reasons not to do something.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Let's start with the warehouse. What bothers you as guys? You know?
Darryl : My priority is safety.
Micheal : Okay.
Darryl : So it really bothers me when somebody comes in here speeding around on a lift, playing with it like a toy.
Micheal : Okay, Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. sh sh
Darryl : Don't-don't shush me.
Micheal : No, I... That was just
? : That bothers me too.
---------------------------------------
Roy : Pam shushes me, it drives me crazy.
Micheal : I hate shushing, you know? That's the thing. What, okay. What is our... beef as human men.
? : You know, that's a good question, Hasselhoff.
Micheal : Okay. All right.
? : What bugs us?
Micheal : Good. Guys raggin' on each other. (남자들끼리의 장난) That's what guys do. (남자들은 그렇게 하는 거에요) And we love it.
---------------------------------------
Jan : ll right, let's talk about... clothing.
---------------------------------------
Phylis : I'm excited about today. I love girl talk.
---------------------------------------
Jan : Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. 갖고 있는 직업 말구요) You can use your clothing to send a message about your ambitions by wearing clothes that reflect what you aspire to be.
---------------------------------------
Angela : I'm not gaining anything from this seminar. (이 세미나에서는 배울게 없어요) I'm a professional woman. The head of accounting. I'm in the healthiest relationship of my life. I just think it's insulting that Jan thinks we need this. And apparently... judging from her outfit... (그리고 그녀의 복장을 평가하자면) Jan aspires to be a whore.
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
Roy : I hate it when girls insist on taking them out to new restaurants every weekend night, and then they're like, "When are we gonna go on a date date?"
? : Exactly!
? : That's so hard.
Dwight : Yeah, and then they make you drive 'em to church the next morning. (그리고 다음날이면 교회까지 데려다 달라고 그러지) Like, gas ain't free!
? : Yeah, on our salaries, man, what do they expect, you know? What, "take us out every weekend"? You know what I mean? We're not millionaires. No you don't.
Micheal : I feel you.
Darryl : You don't feel us. How can you? You-you know what?
Dwight : Not literally.
Darryl : You say we're the same, but we get compensated very differently.
? : Yes.
Darryl : We work the same hours as you, And you just said we work a lot harder.
Micheal : Uh, you do, so...
Darryl : But we get paid a lot less.
Dwight : Word.
Roy : Like, next to no benefits.
Micheal : I know. God, what is that?!
Roy : Exactly!
Micheal : It blows, it blows, man!
Darryl : You know, this would not happen if we had a union.
Roy : That's what I'm talking about.
Micheal : Yeah, no.
Darry : Absolutely, that's what we need. Man, see. That's what I been sayin', man. We need to do this finally.
Micheal : Is that necessary? 'Cause you already sort of have a union of guys.
Darryl : It's more than necessary, Mike. We need this (이건 필요 이상이야, 우린 이게 절실하다고) Roy.
Roy : Yeah
Darryl : Are you still have that card from the dock workers union?
Roy : In my truck.
? : Man, hook him up. Come on, man !
Micheal : Yeah. You know what, I think the problem is the chicks.
Darryl : Union, yeah!
Micheal : The problem is the chicks. And you gotta blame them.
Darryl : Are you with us, Mike?
Micheal : Yeah.
Darryl : Welcome to the warehouse. Michael! Michael! Michael! Michael!
---------------------------------------
Jan : Another issue is inequality of pay between men and women. I'm sure that all of you have delt with that before.
Micheal : This is important. Ladies, take a breather. I, wanted... Can I help you? I wanted to say that the guys downstairs are thinking about forming a union.
Jan : What? A union. I'm not.
Micheal : And they have some good points.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Part of my job is knowing how to talk to women.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Let's... be... rational... here. (합리적으로 보죠, 지금) What are the pros, what are the cons?
Jan : The cons are that everyone will lose their job, Micheal. Everyone. Office, warehouse. What do you think the... pros... are... here?
Micheal : Don't talk to me that way, please. Just... (저한테 그런 식으로 말하지 말아줘요) They're gonna wanna hear this from you.
Jan : You got yourself into this, Michael, so (당신이 저지른 일이잖아요)
Micheal : Well, we're bonding down there.
Jan : It's too bad.
Micheal : I just don't wanna have to tell them something they're not gonna wanna hear! (그들이 듣기 실어하는 걸 말하기 싫어요) Come on, Jan. After all we've been through.
Jan : Michael, Michael.
Micheal : We have a history.
Jan : Michael.
Micheal : We have a history. Between us.
Jan : Don't say another word. Get... yourself...downstairs.
Micheal : I'm just saying that we have something... okay, whatever.
---------------------------------------
Ryan : You know what? We could get this done a lot quicker if we formed a type of assembly line.
Stanley : This here is a run-out-the-clock situation. (여기 사람들은 그냥 시간때우기를 한다구요) Just like upstairs.
---------------------------------------
Jan : Sports metaphors are one of the ways women feel left out of the language of the office. Now, I know this might sound silly, but many women ask to go over it. (굉장히 바보같은 건 저도 알지만 많은 여성들이 알길 원했으니) So... fumble means...
Phylis : Mistake.
Meredith : Slip.
Jan : Right. Par for the course is a golf term, it means right on track. (골프에서 Par는 잘하고 있다는 소리구요) Below par means worse. Wait. That's doesn't make sense.
Kelly : What about second base? (2루) Like if Michael said he got to second base with you? Does that mean he closed the deal?
Jan : Excuse me?
Kelly : I mean, that's a baseball term, right?
Jan : I don't know what. Michael was... talking about.
Pam : Hey.
Jim : Hey!
Pam : How's it going down there?
Jim : It's a complete. Well, actually it's exactly what you'd expect, so... (네 생각 그대로라고 하면 돼) How are the girls?
Pam : Good. We watched a video about our changing bodies.
Jim : Did you really?
Pam : No. Almost. Something kind of cool. (좋은게 하나 있어) There's this internship in graphic design that Jan was telling us about. She made it sound, like, really great.
Jim : Nice. Well, what's it all about? I think you should do it. That's great!
Pam : It's really cool.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Cold front comin' in to the warehouse! Better put on your ski boots! Happy New Year Darryl! Hey, Darryl! You ever done this?
---------------------------------------
Angela : Are you married?
Jan : I'm divorced.
Phylis : That must have been hard.
Jan : It was. Yes.
Kelly : You were probably feeling really depressed and sad. And that's why you did that thing with Michael.
Jan : I think you should all spend a little more time about your careers (제 생각엔 여러분 모두 당신들의 직업에 대해서 좀 더 생각하고) and less time on personal stuff.
Phylis : I think we're all okay with the balance we've struck.
Angela : At least you don't have kids. You have no kids, right? Thank God.
Jan : Okay Let's take five. (5분간 좀 쉬죠) I think we could all use five.
Kelly : How can someone so beautiful be so sad?
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Hi.
Jan : Did you take care of the situation?
Micheal : Yeah, yeah. Yes.
Jan : Excuse me
Micheal : I... I have... essentially (본질적으로..)
Jan : I'm told that there's been some interest in forming a union. And that Michael supported it. Obviously he's not a friend of yours, because he didn't tell you the facts So let me. (그러니 제가 말해드리죠) If there is even a whiff of unionizing in this branch, I can guarantee you the branch will be shut down like that. They unionized in Pittsfield, and we all know what happened in Pittsfield. (어떻게 됐는지는 우리 모두 알죠) It will cost each of you a fortune in legal fees. (여러분 각자에게 법률비용이나 노조비 등 재산손실이 따를 것이고) Union dues, and that'll be nothing compared to the cost of losing your jobs. (무엇보다도 여러분의 직업을 잃게 될거에요) So I would think long and hard before sacrificing your savings and your futures just to send a message. If you have any further questions, you can direct them to... to Michael.
---------------------------------------
Pam : Dreams are just that. They're dreams. They help get you through the day. (하루를 보내는데 도와줘요) Like the thing about the terrace. It's nice. But, um... I don't know. It was just something I read in this book when I was 12. (제가 12살 때 읽었던 책에 있던건데요) The girl in the book has a terrace outside of her bedroom... And she planted flowers on it. And I just loved that. Just always kind of stuck with me.
---------------------------------------
Jim : So, you're not doing it.
Pam : How did you know?
Jim : Why not?
Pam : Just not... no big reason. Just a bunch of little reasons.
Jim : Come on.
Pam : Roy's right. There's no guarantee it's gonna lead to anything anyway.
Jim : Roy said that?
Pam : What? You have something you wanna say?
Jim : You gotta take a chance on something sometime, I mean, do you wanna be a receptionist here, always?
Pam : Oh, excuse me! I'm fine with my choices.
Jim : You are?
Pam : Yeah.
---------------------------------------
Pam : It's impractical. (굉장히 불편해요) I'm not gonna... try to get a house like that. (전 그런 집을 가지려는 노력은 안할거에요) They don't even make houses like that in Scranton. (그런 집은 여기 Scranton에서는 만들지도 않아요) So I'm never gonna...
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Just gonna push this over there!
Darryl : This is not a good idea right here.
Micheal : Easy does it, okay.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Pizza. Great equalizer. (모두를 동등하게 하지) Rich people love pizza. Poor people love pizza. White people love pizza. Black people love pizza. Do black people like pizza ?
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Hey. Look guys, I'm sorry. Sometimes, Jan... can be such a bitch.
Everybody : Yeah
Micheal : Hey, watch it, watch it. (조심해) We have a relationship.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Thank you to our host.
Darryl : Hey Michael! This ain't over.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Excellent.
---------------------------------------
Micheal : Is it good to be back? Yeah. I mean, I love the guy stuff, But... (남자들의 모임을 좋아하지만) To run an office, you need men and women. You know why? Because you need to have that crazy sexual tension to keep things interesting.
---------------------------------------
Pam : Dunder-Mifflin, this is Pam. Hold please.
---------------------------------------
Dwight : Snow angel
